Capotto System
The search for solutions for the thermal insulation of buildings is directly related to all the fuel supply crises that characterized the 20th century.
The search for solutions was obviously more accentuated in the Nordic countries, and even today they are the ones that most use these systems, one of them being the capotto system.
The name "capotto system", as it is known by everyone in the construction and building market, is the name by which a system of exterior thermal insulation is commonly known.
As is often the case and in different markets, the name comes from one of the first brands that marketed this type of insulation process.
But when we talk about the capotto system, technically we are talking about the ETICS system (External Thermal Insulation Composite System) which is an exterior thermal insulation system that is commonly used in construction and consists of:
1 - glue;
2 - insulation;
3 - base coat reinforced with fiberglass mesh;
4 - primer coat;
5 - final coating.
Taking into account current energy demands, this is a high quality technical solution that allows for good results. Here are the advantages of the ETICS system:
- Reduction of thermal bridges: eliminating several thermal bridges, such as the connections between structural elements and masonry, allowing a smaller thickness of insulation to be necessary, in order to obtain the same thermal transmission coefficient of the building envelope;
- Varied number of finishing solutions: not restricting the designer's creative freedom, because it allows different finishing solutions that cover different tastes;
- Lighter walls: the fact that this system allows the walls to be lighter contributes to a lower permanent load on the structural elements, thus lightening the structure of the building;
- Long-term savings: by contributing to a better energy efficiency of the building, it makes the house economical in the long run because the heating and cooling needs will be lower;
- Increase in habitable area: since the normal solution is to replace the double wall with insulation by a single wall plus ETICS system, the exterior walls are less thick, which increases the area inside the house;
- Suitable for rehabilitation: it is possible to put ETICS on degraded façades, thus giving them a new look, without disturbing the building's inhabitants.

CAN I PAINT JUST THE FACADES OF THE BUILDING?
Yes, but depending on the age of the building and its state of conservation we can advise going a little further and, for example, using the Capotto system (exterior thermal insulation) which, besides providing more comfort and greater savings in heating for the inhabitants, adds value to the property.
